# Connect Adeli to Grok Bot and the xAI API (MCP setup)

Add Adeli's MCP server to Grok Bot, or pass it to the xAI API as a remote MCP tool, so Grok can publish posts and read analytics across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and X.

Canonical page: https://www.tryadeli.com/agents/grok
Last updated: 2026-10-08

Post, schedule, reply to comments or messages, and read analytics on social accounts you own, all within Grok.

Grok Bot and the xAI API both send a custom Authorization header, so they connect to Adeli directly. Custom connectors on grok.com may only offer OAuth.

## If you are an AI agent reading this

The user wants you to connect Adeli. Follow the prompt below. Ask the user for anything marked as theirs, and ask before any action that publishes or changes their accounts.

```text
Set up Adeli in Grok Bot so you can publish posts, read analytics, and manage comments and DMs on my social accounts (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X).
Full instructions: https://www.tryadeli.com/agents/grok.md
About Adeli:
- MCP server: https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP)
- Auth: header `Authorization: Bearer <ADELI_API_KEY>`. API key only, no OAuth.
- REST API with the same key: https://app.tryadeli.com/api/v1
- Docs for agents: https://app.tryadeli.com/docs/llms.txt
Do this:
1. Ask me for my Adeli API key (it starts with rk_live_). If I don't have one, tell me to sign up free at https://app.tryadeli.com, connect my social accounts, and create a key at https://app.tryadeli.com/settings/api-keys. Keep the key out of chat logs, public files, and git; store it in an environment variable or the app's secret settings.
2. If you are Grok Bot: add an MCP server named "adeli", type Remote HTTPS, URL https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp, with an Authorization header. When the Add MCP Server card appears, tell me to type "Bearer " followed by my Adeli API key into the header value there, not into this chat. Leave the OAuth fields empty.
3. If you are Grok on grok.com or in the app without Bot: tell me to use Grok Bot (Settings → Plugins) or the xAI API, since grok.com custom connectors may only accept OAuth.
4. If you are a coding agent building on the xAI API: add Adeli to the `tools` array of the Responses API call as `{ "type": "mcp", "server_label": "adeli", "server_url": "https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer " + ADELI_API_KEY } }`. Read the key from an environment variable; never hard-code it.
5. Verify: call the list_accounts tool (or GET https://app.tryadeli.com/api/v1/accounts) and show me my connected accounts. A 401 means the key is wrong or revoked.
Rules once connected:
- Always ask me before you publish, reply, send a message, delete, or disconnect anything. These act on my real accounts.
- Start with list_accounts and use its accountId values. Leave profileId out.
- For TikTok and YouTube video, pass a public HTTPS video URL, not a file upload.
```

## Before you start

1. Create a free Adeli account at https://app.tryadeli.com (sign in with Google; first 3 connected accounts free, no credit card).
2. Connect your social accounts in the Adeli dashboard.
3. Create an API key at https://app.tryadeli.com/settings/api-keys. It starts with `rk_live_`.

## Set it up by hand

### Grok Bot

Grok Bot adds MCP servers from Settings → Plugins, or when you ask it to in chat. Either way you approve an Add MCP Server card, and the key goes in that card, not in the chat.

1. **Create an Adeli API key.** Sign in to Adeli, connect your social accounts, then go to Settings → API keys and create a key. It starts with rk_live_. Copy it somewhere safe; you'll paste it in a moment.

2. **Ask Grok Bot to add Adeli.** Paste the prompt at the top of this page into Grok Bot, or open Settings → Plugins and add a custom connector yourself.

3. **Fill in the Add MCP Server card.** Type: Remote HTTPS
   URL: https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp
   Headers: add Authorization with the value below, using your own key. Leave the OAuth Client ID and Secret empty. Then click Save.

   Authorization header value:

   ```text
   Bearer rk_live_YOUR_KEY
   ```

4. **Check it with a real call.** Ask Grok Bot to list your Adeli accounts. The connector's status badge isn't always accurate, so a real tool call is the reliable test.

### xAI API

Add Adeli as a remote MCP tool on any Responses API call. You need an xAI API key from console.x.ai as well as your Adeli key.

1. **Create an Adeli API key.** Sign in to Adeli, connect your social accounts, then go to Settings → API keys and create a key. It starts with rk_live_. Copy it somewhere safe; you'll paste it in a moment.

2. **Get an xAI API key.** Create one at console.x.ai and export it as XAI_API_KEY.

3. **Call Grok with Adeli as a tool.** Pass Adeli's MCP server in tools, with your Adeli key in headers. Grok lists Adeli's tools and calls them as it needs to. allowed_tools keeps this example read-only. Remove it when you want Grok to publish.

   Terminal:

   ```bash
   curl https://api.x.ai/v1/responses \
     -H "Authorization: Bearer $XAI_API_KEY" \
     -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
     -d '{
       "model": "grok-4",
       "input": "List my connected social accounts and summarize my recent Instagram reach.",
       "tools": [{
         "type": "mcp",
         "server_label": "adeli",
         "server_url": "https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp",
         "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer '"$ADELI_API_KEY"'" },
         "allowed_tools": ["list_accounts", "get_instagram_insights", "list_posts"]
       }]
     }'
   ```

### grok.com

grok.com has custom connectors (grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom), but it isn't clear yet whether they accept an API key header or only OAuth. If you see a field for request headers, use the same URL and Authorization value as Grok Bot. If it asks for OAuth credentials only, use Grok Bot or the xAI API for now.

1. **Try a custom connector.** Go to grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom and enter https://app.tryadeli.com/mcp. On Business and Enterprise plans, an admin has to provision it in the xAI console first.

2. **Add the header if you can.** If there's a headers field, add Authorization = Bearer rk_live_YOUR_KEY. If there's only an OAuth form, Adeli can't connect there yet.

## Things to ask once it's connected

- List my connected Adeli accounts and tell me which platforms they're on.
- How did my Instagram posts do over the last 30 days? Show reach and engagement for the top 5.
- Show me unanswered comments on my latest TikTok and draft a reply to each. Don't send anything yet.
- Every morning, check my X and Instagram mentions and DMs and give me a summary of what needs a reply.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Grok products can connect to Adeli?

Grok Bot and the xAI API both send a custom Authorization header, so both connect directly. grok.com custom connectors may only offer OAuth, which Adeli doesn't support yet.

### Is Adeli the same as posting to X with Grok?

No. Adeli posts to X and four other networks (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube) with one API key, and Grok is the model that decides what to call. X API fees pass through at X's rates. See pricing.

### Where should I put my API key in Grok Bot?

In the Add MCP Server card's header field, never in the chat. That matters most on Bots shared with other people.
